Making Guitars

In our inquiry into sound, we took time to review our last two lessons. The students discussed their results and came to the conclusions that the longer the object is that vibrates, the lower the pitch and the shorter the object that vibrates, the higher the pitch.
Today, we wondered how we can make a guitar out of the materials we have collected. The students reviewed the inquiry process for a task such as this. They are using science books about sound and pictures of guitars as resources for building ideas. They began working on building their guitars today.
Students attended gym, music and French class today.
In math, grade 4s used Microsoft Office Word to make transformations. They experienced the frustrations and successes of doing something new with computer software. They used the program to format a grid, select and copy figures, colour the figure and then transform the figure using rotations and reflections. The grade 3s learned how to slide a figure along a grid using Pattern Blocks.
We ended the day working on grammar and arithmetic practice.
