News Report

Grade 3s and 4s began their day with math. Grade 4s practised using mental math strategies called friendly numbers and counting on to find the differences between 2 3-digit numbers. Ask your child to explain these strategies to you. Grade 3s used different strategies to recall basic addition facts. One of the strategies is to use fact families. Ask your child to explain what a fact family is.
In arithmetic, we learned how repeated addition can be written as multiplication and how multiplication can be written as repeated addition.
The children worked on reviewing this week's spelling works for tomorrow's test.
In writing, we reviewed the essential characteristics of a news report. Students used their ideas from yesterday to write a news report about Friday's Terry Fox Run. They are learning how to be good communicators through the written word. They are also preparing for the news report they will write about our trip to Milton Quarry tomorrow. Students are to wear their SJA uniforms for tomorrow's trip.
The class attended gym, music and french today.
