Grade 3s and 4s began their day working on language rules involving periods. Students were familiar with most of the rules covered today.
- End declarative sentences with a period
- Initials are followed by a period
- Abbreviated titles of respect are followed by a period
- Abbreviated months of the year and days of the week are followed by a period
In arithmetic, we worked on long division problems where we have a 2-digit quotient. The children finally got to discover what "bring down" means. Most children will need to complete today's arithmetic for homework and they may need some support to correctly complete the long-division problems.
In an effort to be internationally-minded, the children were presented with a picture of Barack Obama. They shared what they already know about him as well as questions they have. Students will be researching to find answers to the questions they have.
In our poetry unit, the children watched a wonderful DVD called A Child's Garden of Poetry. It included animated readings of poems and reflections of the poems by children.
In math, grade 4s continued working to discover the properties of quadrilaterals. Grade 3s took up the test that they wrote on Friday. The grade 3s are bringing their test home today. Please take time to review the test with your child as the class will be writing a retest tomorrow.
Look about for a Parent Guild letter coming home today.
