Shape Poems

Grade 4 students had geometry lesson exploring angles today. They also heard about 3 geometry related words that will feature on this week's spelling test. Students learned that angles are found where two lines meet or cross. They were reminded of a right angle being the same as an angle in a square corner. They compared angles that were less, equal or greater to a right angle.
Grade 3 students used the standard algorithm for subtraction to subtract 3-digit numbers and to solve word problems.
Both grades worked on reviewing list 8 words for this week's spelling test.
In arithmetic, students learned to check subtraction problems by adding the difference to the subtrahend.
In poetry, the children chose a topic for their shape poem and used a word web to brainstorm ideas for their shape poem. They have been challenged to use alliteration in their poem. Some students have begun drafting their shape poem too.
We ended the day reviewing and correcting all our  language work on kinds of sentences and capitalization rules to prepare for tomorrow's language test. Students shared what they had discovered about Mayor Hazel McCallion too.
Students attended gym, drama and french class today
