Healthy Choices

We began our day with math. Grade 4s worked on finding as many possible rectangular figures that all have the same areas. We used small congruent squares to represent a square metre and in an organised way made many different rectangles. Students recorded their work in charts and on grid paper. Grade 3s also worked in charts today. They used charts to record and extend number patterns and solve word problems. They continued writing pattern rules for each column of their charts.
Students worked on spelling, arithmetic and language work independently.
In our inquiry, Who We Are, into healthy living, students took time to examine their food diary and compare what they ate yesterday to the recommended servings in Canada's Food Guide. We had valuable discussions on the importance of making healthy food choices and the implications of unhealthy food choices on our bodies.
We ended the day with grade 3s working on science fair. We completed the write up of our experimental procedure today and are getting closer to catching up to the grade 4s. Students were also informed about a change in dates for the science fair. The new date is at May 31, which is the same day as our Track and Field event. The grade 4s are thankful for the extra time to work on their projects. The grade 4s used the time at the end of the day to complete their classwork and get as much homework done as they could.
Map work tests are coming home today. Some students have to write a retest tomorrow. Other students are choosing to write a retest if they would like to improve their score.
