Nutrition Labels

We focused on learning to read and interpret nutrtition labels in our inquiry unit this morning. Students viewed samples of nutrition labels and identified grams and % daily value of core nutrients found in a serving of food. They compared labels with repsect to fat, sodium, and fibre and decided which food would be a healthier choice. Students were given food samples and challenged to find the highest and lowest nutrient amounts for fats, crabohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals.
In spelling, students worked on list 34 words. They also recieved a letter about this year's spelling bee and words to study for the in-class elimination round. In language we learned that a subject tells who or what a sentence is about. Students understand that subjects are often nouns. The practised identifying the subject, proper nouns and common nouns in sentences.
Students attended gym and French class today.
In math, grade 3s did review work to prepare for Thursday's test on patterns. Grade 4s used tables, blocks, and pictures to record changing-step growing patterns.
I met with grade 4 students to check on their science fair progress today. Students who have not already done so are asked to bring in their results tomorrow. Grade 3 staudents have started typing up our hypothesis and background research.
We ended the day working on our Arts' Night presentation. Students are being given the freedom and responsibility to plan this performance. It is an opportunity to express creativity and cooperation as they work with one another.
