How Much is a Serving?

Our day began with the grade 4s working on math. They used a geoboard to create as many different rectangular figures with a perimeter of 22 m. The goal was to find all possibilities and then choose the figure with the greatest area. The children worked with a partner to accomplish this task and recorded their work in a chart and on gird paper. Grade 3s began a new unit on patterns in number and geometry. They looked at number patterns, identified and extended the pattern and then wrote a pattern rule to describe the pattern. There were some tricky patterns that required careful thinking.
Both grades worked on spelling, arithmetic, and language work, and then wrote their map work test.
For our inquiry into healthy living, students took time to carefully examine Canada's Food Guide to understand how much food from each food group is regarded as one serving. Students took time to record what they had eaten at school today into their - "What Did I Eat" chart.
We ended the day working on our science fair projects. Grade 3s are beginning to collect the materials we need for our project. Most grade 4s took this time to read.
Students attended French Cafe rehearsal and gym today.
