Serving Sizes

Students had a fun lesson on healthy living today. Mr. Burt brought his breakfast into class and the students commented on when his serving size was correct or too large. Students discussed how eating too much or too little affects us. Students practiced writing how many servings a portion counted as according to Canada's Food Guide as well as which food group the food belonged to. The children had some really good questions, such as " Is there any food that it's okay to have too much of?" and "Why is peanut butter with the meat group?" Remember to make time to complete the Ethnic Food Project by Monday.
Students worked on reviewing spelling words and reviewing arithmetic work. In language they continued writing sentences with a focus on correct grammar using words that need helping words.
Students attended gym and French class today.
We worked on our 3-D map of Canada today, this time adding a legend and title to our maps. Students had fun working with play dough again as our legend had to be 3-D too.
We ended the day working on math. Grade 3s worked on reviewing concepts in their length, perimeter, and area unit in preparation for their unit test which will be on Monday. Grade 4s used a 1-cm grid to measure area in square centimetres.
