Personal Food Guides

Due to French Cafe rehearsals, our daily schedule will be different this week. Grade 3s began the day writing their unit test on length, perimeter, and area. Grade 4s reviewed what area means. They were then challenged to work as a group and find the area of a portion of the gym floor using square metres we had constructed out of paper. The students have a very good understanding of how big an square metre is after this exercise, and that its not possible to draw large areas to size. Students found large areas from models by counting squares or by using the formula for area.
Students worked on reviewing this week's spelling list, arithmetic work, and language where we continue focusing on grammar. Please note that due French Cafe on Friday, we will be writing our spelling test on Thursday this week.
Students attended French and gym class today.
For our inquiry unit, Who We Are, we spent time recording what we know and questions we have. Students shared their ideas with the class. We have really interesting questions about nutrition, physical activity, and dehydration that we would like answered by the end of the unit.We reviewed the 4 four groups and students began working on a personal food guide. They are generating examples of the minimum number of servings that a child their age should be consuming from each food group. They are also bringing home another assignment that they will be working on all day tomorrow. They will need to record everything they eat tomorrow. If they are not sure how many servings it counts as, they should just record the meal, and we will work together on Wednesday to figure out the servings.
We ended the day working on our science fair projects. Grade 4s had an hour to work on their individual projects. Grade 3s tried to complete all their background research as we are behind on our science fair schedule.
