Better Sentences

We are nearing the end of our multiplication unit and both grades will be writing a unit test next Monday. The grade 3s used known multiplication facts such as 3 x 5 = 15 to write related facts (5 x 3 = 15, 15 /3 = 5, and 15/5 = 3). Grade 4s practiced division problems where there is a remainder. They used Base Ten block pictures to help them solve these problems. Both grades worked on solving word problems involving addition. They used pictures, numbers and words sentences to show their thinking.
The students did not have gym today due to our Christmas concert rehearsal. This time was used for french class with Mme. Stella instead. Both grades worked on this week's spelling words and on arithmetic review. No new concepts were learned in arithmetic today.
After first recess, both grades rehearsed for the Christmas concert along with other students from JK to grade 2. We ran through the play quicker than yesterday and hope to improve daily. Remember to send in your loonie for the Christmas wand.
We ended the day working on language. The children worked on writing better sentences by combining short sentences to make a longer sentence and by including more detail in their sentences to make them more interesting. The children also enjoyed independent reading time in class today.
