Good Sentences

Grade 3s and 4s began their day working on math. Grade 3s learned that a number is divisible by 2, 5, or by 10 if the number can be divided into 2, 5, or 10 equal groups respectively. They used arrays to model their thinking when solving division problems. Grade 4s practiced division problems where there is a remainder. The did this using pictures instead of the long division algorithm we have been using in our arithmetic books. They did some tricky division word problems where the answer required was not the same as the answer to the division problem because the remainder represented a student that needed to go on a field trip. Ask your child to tell you about this problem.
The class attended gym class with Mr. Browning today. Both boys and girls took too long to change after gym and were silly in the change room. We expect the children to change quickly and in a focused way.
The children worked on this week's spelling words and arithmetic. In arithmetic, the children are measuring lengths to the nearest centimeter.
We began working on the Christmas concert together with the JK-grade 2 classes. The students learned what their positions will be on stage. Due to the rehearsal, the class did not have french with Mme. Stella today.Check your child's agenda for a letter with more details about the Christmas concert.
We ended our day discussing what makes good sentences and how adding detail to our sentences makes them more interesting to read and imagine. The children practiced writing good sentences. They also enjoyed 20 minutes of independent reading time before we read a book about life during the Middle Ages.
