Gumboot Dancing

Grade 3s and 4s began their day by working on their reviews. Some children have completed the good copy of their review and now have the skills needed to write a review when we see Cinderella on Monday.
Both grades worked on their list 10 spelling words in class. In arithmetic, the class worked on review pages.
The children heard about gumboot dancing and how it got started in South African mines. They enjoyed viewing a video clip of miners performing the gumboot dance and a professional dance troupe performing gumboot dancing. The children had fun leading the class in improvised gumboot steps.
We also got to hear about about American line dancing. The children learned the steps to Cotton Eye Joe and got to put the steps to music.
Students will be bringing home a letter outlining our final project for this unit of poetry, drama and dance. Please take the time to read over the project with your child. They do not need to make a decision today. There will be time in class tomorrow for students to talk to each other and form groups for those that wish to.
Both grades ended the day with math. Grade 3s combined figures to create new figures. Grade 4s examined solids and sorted them according to their properties.
The children attended drama and gym class today.
